Our large format Canon printer is built for exhibition and gallery work, so colours stay accurate and skin tones stay natural from the screen to the paper.

Photo prints

Lustre, gloss and matte prints from your film scans, phone shots or digital files on PermaJet paper. We keep a wide selection of papers in stock so we can match the finish to your image.

Best for: Albums, desk frames, gifts, sets of holiday photos, prints of your film scans.
Popular sizes: 6×4, 7×5, 8×6, 10×8 and square 8×8.
Finishes: Lustre (our default, fingerprint friendly), gloss or matte PermaJet surfaces.
Send us: The original JPEG straight from your camera, phone or our scans.

Below this it starts to soften

Print shapes and photo shapes rarely match perfectly. A phone photo is 4:3, so a 6×4 print trims a sliver from the long edge. If the whole frame matters to you, say so in your notes and we'll add a small white border instead of cropping.

Getting a print-ready file

A good print starts with a good file. None of this is compulsory; send what you have and we'll tell you honestly how it will look.

Do this

Send the original file straight from your camera, phone or our scans
JPEG at maximum quality, or TIFF, PNG or RAW if you have it
Crop only if you're sure; we can always crop, we can't put pixels back
Keep important detail away from the very edge; a sliver is trimmed in printing
Tell us if the whole frame must be kept and we'll add a white border instead

Avoid if you can

Screenshots of a photo; they're only as big as your screen
Photos forwarded through WhatsApp, Messenger or Instagram (heavily compressed)
Files that have been saved, edited and re-saved as JPEG many times
Heavy sharpening or filters; they can look harsh once printed
Photos of a photo taken at an angle, unless it's all you have (we can copy the original in store)

On iPhone, share the photo and choose 'Actual Size' when you export, or use AirDrop rather than a messaging app. On Android, share from Google Photos with 'Original' quality. On a camera, copy straight off the memory card, or bring the card in and we'll pull the files off for you.

We print on PermaJet papers and keep a wide selection in stock. We aim to give you exactly the paper you ask for. If we cannot get hold of it, we will contact you first and suggest the closest match before we print anything.

Walk into Camera Centre UK with your phone, a memory card, a USB stick, a CD, your negatives, an old print or a whole album, and we'll take it from there over the counter. We'll copy what we need, talk sizes and finishes with you face to face, and give you a price before anything is printed.

Our designer reviews it
We open the file at full size, check resolution and colour, and work out what's possible, especially for restoration jobs.

We come back with a quote
You'll hear from us by email or phone with a price and a turnaround time. Nothing is printed until you say yes.

Collect or have it posted
Collect your prints from Camera Centre UK in Morgan Arcade, Cardiff, or ask us to post them out to you for a single return postage fee.

Photo printing questions

The things people ask us at the counter most often.

Where can I get photos printed in Cardiff?: At Camera Centre UK, 14–16 Morgan Arcade, a minute from The Hayes and St Mary Street. Upload your photos here for a reference, or bring a phone, memory card or USB stick to the counter.
How much does photo printing cost?: Small prints start around a pound each and the full list is on this page, straight from the lab. Restoration, canvas and framing are quoted individually once our designer has seen the job.
How quickly can I get prints?: Small prints are usually same day or next working day. Enlargements, canvas, mounting and framing take a few working days because they are finished by hand in store.
Can you print photos from my phone?: Yes. Upload straight from your phone using the form on this page, tell us the size and finish, and we confirm the price before anything is printed.
Do you print from film negatives and scans?: We do, and it is what we do best. If we developed the film, the scans are already in your online gallery and prints are a couple of taps away.
Can you frame or mount the print?: Yes, framing, mounting and canvas stretching all happen in the shop, so the print and the frame never leave the same building.
Which paper do you print on?: We use a wide PermaJet range, from gloss and lustre to fibre base and fine art papers. Tell us what you want, and if we cannot get it we will contact you with a suggestion before printing.
Can I post my prints out instead of collecting?: Yes, anywhere in the UK for a single tracked return postage fee, and your order still shows its progress in your online account.
Do you take passport and visa photos?: We do. We take and print biometric-compliant photos for UK and international passports, visas, driving licenses and blue badges. It is a walk-in service, so no appointment is needed.
