Video transfer in Cardiff: tapes and cine film to USB
We convert VHS, VHS-C, Betamax, Betacam, Hi-8, Super 8, cine film, Mini DV and Mini Disc to USB or disc. Bring them to our Cardiff store and we will quote the job on the spot.
USB is what we recommend
A USB stick is the most widely accepted and most future proof way to keep your footage. It plugs into any modern laptop, many smart TVs and media players, the files copy in seconds, and you can back them up to a cloud drive or an external hard disk so there is never just one copy again.
Disc, if you prefer
We can still supply your transfer on disc, which suits people who want to sit down with a player in the living room. Just be aware that new laptops rarely have a drive, and discs scratch, so most customers now go for USB and keep a disc only as a bonus.

1977 onwards
VHS
The big black tapes from the family cupboard. Weddings, christenings, holidays and off-air recordings.
Tapes stored in lofts and garages can shed, so we check condition before transfer.
1982 onwards
VHS-C
The compact camcorder tape that needed an adaptor to play in a VHS machine.
No adaptor needed, bring the tape on its own.
1975 onwards
Betamax
Sony's rival to VHS. Fewer machines survive, so these are well worth digitising now.
Playback gear for Betamax is getting rare, do not leave it too long.
Broadcast
Betacam
Professional broadcast tape used by production companies and news crews.
Tell us whether it is Betacam SP or Digital Betacam if you know.
1989 onwards
Hi-8
8mm camcorder tape, including Video8 and Digital8 family footage.
We can usually read Video8, Hi-8 and Digital8 from the same family of tapes.
1965 onwards
Super 8
Small reels of cine film shot on a home movie camera, often silent.
Bring the reel and the box or canister if you still have it.
Standard 8 & 16mm
Cine film
Older reels of home movie film from before video tape took over.
Brittle or vinegary reels need a look first, so pop in with them.
1995 onwards
Mini DV
The small digital camcorder cassette used through the 2000s.
Digital source, so the transfer keeps the original quality.
MD & MD video
Mini Disc
Sony's small disc format, including audio Mini Discs and camcorder discs.
Let us know if it is audio or video, they are handled differently.

We identify the format, check condition and give you a price and a realistic collection date.

We transfer them
Tapes play back in real time and are captured to digital files, then checked before we finish.

Collect on USB or disc
Pick up your USB stick (or disc) with your original tapes returned to you.
Pricing and turnaround depend on format, length and condition, so every job is quoted individually. There is no charge for a quote.
